Brewery: Magners - Location: Ireland - Type: Cider - Category: Fruity

We love making cider, but we reckon there’s only one way to do it properly. That’s why we’re still taking inspiration from the historic methods we used when we started making cider back in 1935. That’s part of the Magners taste. So in this way we use 17 varieties of apples, waiting until they drop before pressing and filtering them in the traditional way. We take time to ferment the cider and even more time to let it mature, up to 2 years in fact, tasting it along the way. Sure, there are faster ways of making cider, but then it wouldn’t be Magners.

Brewery: Anderson Valley - Location: CA - Type: Sour - Category: Sours and Saisons

TO GO ONLY. Born from an experimental fermentation project, Thribble Currant is a truly unique American sour ale. It’s produced by taking our Brother David’s Triple wort from the kettle and adding it to wine barrels to ferment with our Horse Tongue Wheat sour culture. That’s right: no brewer’s yeast or stainless steel here; it’s 100% barrel-fermented with wild yeast and bacteria. After primary fermentation has ended (several months or more), a healthy dose of black currants is added, providing natural sugars to encourage additional fermentation. It will spend upwards of a year or more in the barrel until it has matured and reached the perfect balance of sourness and complexity. The resulting beer is a deep burgundy color with a bracing sourness and subtle sweetness with hints of oak, dark fruit, and wild berry. $15 each or 3 for $40

  • Tropical Hazy Sour
    4.3%

    Flight: $3.00 - Half Pour: $0 - Glass: $5.5 - Half Growler: $9 - Growler: $18

Brewery: Anderson Valley - Location: CA - Type: Sour - Category: Sours and Saisons

The beer is brewed to be pleasingly tart and refreshing using a traditional kettle souring method, similar to our renowned and award-winning Gose series of beers. We’re good at this—our Brewmaster Fal quite literally wrote the book (Google it: Allen, Fal; Gose: Brewing a Classic German Beer for the Modern Era). Tropical flavors are introduced in the fermentation process through the use of real guava and passion fruit (known as the most passionate of all the fruits!). Finally, we found that leaving the beer hazy resulted in a more aromatic beer and added to the overall balance of the beverage. We did all this and then we did more. Through an enormous exercise of skill and wit, we kept it low-calorie and low-carb so now – as a bonus – the active, outdoor lifestyle folks out there have something new and meaningful to sweat for.

We use bountiful whole tangerine puree, which brings pithy, crisp bitterness to the citrus flavor. In addition to the complexities of the tangerine -- the likes of which you can only get by using the whole fruit -- we judiciously employ just a hint of whole pineapple for a backnote.

Big flavors do not have to be synonymous with one-and- done beers. We love dessert just as much as we love dark beer and we think that enjoying more than one of either should never be a problem. In this medium-bodied Baltic Porter we use a combination of specialty malts and caramel to capture rich flavors like chocolate, caramel and vanilla alongside lager yeast that brings a clean, dry finish.
